Osiris - This myth covers both the resurrection and the virgin birth aspects of myth..(take me back to the virgin births)
Osiris slept with Neftis, thinking she was Isis. She bore a child, Anubis, who had the head of a jackal. Set didn't like this, and he planned his revenge. He took measurements of Osiris and had a sarcophagus fashioned that would fit him exactly. A jolly party was in full progress when Set comes in and says he has a beautiful sarcophagus and anyone whom it fits can have it. When Osiris tries it, it fits perfectly. Seventy-two attendants come rushing in and clamp the lid on the sarcophagus, trapping Osiris inside. The sarcophagus is thrown into the Nile. Osiris floats down the Nile and is washed ashore in Syria and a great tree grows around the sarcophagus.
Isis goes looking for her husband. She comes to the place in Syria where Osiris is enclosed in the tree. A prince, who has recently had a son, was entranced by the wonderful fragrance of the tree and used it as a pillar in his palace. Isis manages to become the nurse for the prince's newly born son. She accepts the job and nurses the boy from her finger. At night, Isis places the child in the fireplace and recites charms to give the boy immortality. The fire is supposed to burn off his moral character. One evening, the mother of the child comes into the room to find her child in the fire and Isis flying around the room in the form of a swallow... twittering mournfully. She lets out a scream. Isis explains that she was only trying to give the child immortality and requests that the tree that encases Osiris be given to her. The prince and his wife agree.
On the journey, Isis removes the sarcophagus lid and lies upon the dead Osiris, and conceives Horus. Afraid to go back to the palace because Set has assumed the throne, Isis goes to the papyrus swamp and gives birth to Horus. The gods Amon and Thot assist her.
Set finds Isis with Osiris' corpse beside her. In a rage, he tears Osiris into fifteen pieces over the landcape, and poor Isis has to go hunt for him again. She is helped by Neftis and Anubis and they find all but one piece. The fourteen parts are put together and Anubis embalms Osisris. This missing pieces (the genitals) had been swallowed by a fish. Osiris is resurrected as the judge of the dead. He is often depicted with a shepherd's crook and a winnowing whip, which winnows wheat (separating the chaff from the seed). Reference - a1Back to Top

(1)In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see sepulcher. (2)And, behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. (3)His countenance was like lightening, and his raiment white as snow; (4) And forfear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. (5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, fear not; for I know ye seek Jesus, who was crucified. (6) He is not here; for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. (7) And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee. There shall ye see him; lo, I have told you. (8) And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy, and did run to bring his disciples word. (9) And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. (10) Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid; go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.(11) Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and showed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. (12) And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave much money unto the soldiers, (13) Saying, say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. (14) And if this come to the governors ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. (15) So they took the money, and did as they were taught; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
(16) Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. (17) and when they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. (18) And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All authority is given unto me in heaven and earth. (19) Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.
