Abbreviations of author names

Most authors cited in the OED are represented by their surname plus initial(s), or, in some cases, by surname only. However, a few very frequently cited authors are given an abbreviated form, which is listed here. (Note that the same names may also occur in their full form.)

Editors of certain texts are also cited in the OED, and abbreviations of their names are listed here. However, these cannot be found by a search restricted to the quotation author region, although a search restricted to quotations will find them.
