Viewing cable 07MANAGUA2286, NICARAGUA: AMCIT PROPERTY CLAIMS MONTHLY UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2007

If you are new to these pages, please read an introduction on the structure of a cable as well as how to discuss them with others. See also the FAQs

Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.
  • The middle box contains the header information that is associated with the cable. It includes information about the receiver(s) as well as a general subject.
  • The bottom box presents the body of the cable. The opening can contain a more specific subject, references to other cables (browse by origin to find them) or additional comment. This is followed by the main contents of the cable: a summary, a collection of specific topics and a comment section.
To understand the justification used for the classification of each cable, please use this WikiSource article as reference.

Discussing cables

SUBJECT: NICARAGUA: AMCIT PROPERTY CLAIMS MONTHLY UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2007

1. Summary: In September of the 2007-2008 waiver year, the
Government of Nicaragua (GON) did not report the resolution of any
Embassy-registered property claim. Nonetheless, one claimant
informed the Embassy that she recovered her property. Since January
1995, 2,516 Embassy-registered property claims belonging to 657
American citizens (Amcits) have been resolved. There remain 677
registered property claims belonging to 295 Amcits. Including Amcit
claims not registered with the Embassy, a total of 4,536 Amcits'
claims have been resolved since January 1995. Most have involved
compensation via government-issued indemnification bonds (bonos de
pago de indemnizacion or BPIs). As of July 31, 2007, the GON had
issued BPIs with a face value of $321,300,000 to Embassy-registered
claimants. Since then, the GON has issued no new BPIs. End
Summary.
